The Choir

“It was exquisite music. I really felt uplifted afterwards, and slept like an angel with memories of the heavenly choir”

Welcome to Petros Singers, one of London’s leading amateur chamber choirs. We give three or four concerts each year, mainly in West London but also regularly in major venues in Central London and sometimes further afield.

We perform a wide variety of music to a high standard, placing particular emphasis on vibrant and communicative singing. Repertoire is often idiosyncratic, eschewing the typical canonical works to shine a light on forgotten masterpieces and rare choral treasures. We collaborate with top-class soloists and instrumentalists including Emma Kirkby, London Mozart Players >, I Fagiolini > and His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts >

The choir has around 35 auditioned singers. The standard is high and rising, and we take great pleasure in singing beautiful music and striving to improve our performance. Voice training is a regular feature of rehearsals, both from our Musical Director, Richard Bannan, and from invited guest conductors. We organise regular open singing workshops led by renowned conductors or voice coaches. We also offer one-to-one singing lessons with the professional tenor, Peter Davoren >. Members can book lessons on an occasional basis, and these are held during rehearsals in a separate room adjacent to our main rehearsal space.

We rehearse every Tuesday evening during term time from 8:00 to 9:45pm in St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, on the borders of Hammersmith and Chiswick (Stamford Brook or Ravenscourt Park tubes).

The choir was founded in 1983 as St Peter’s Singers, having emerged from members of the eponymous church choir looking to perform a wider repertoire. Previous conductors are Christopher Bracewell, Mark Lowther, Michael Emery (Senior Producer of the BBC Singers), and Duncan Aspden. As we had long-since spread our wings from our church base and become a purely concert choir, in 2011 our name was changed to Petros Singers.
