Singing workshops

We hold regular workshops which are open to all singers. These inspirational events have been led by noted conductors, professional singers and voice coaches including Bob Chilcott, Stephen Cleobury, Ken Burton, David Lowe, Deborah Miles-Johnson, Miriam Allan, Giles Underwood, Rory McCleery, Sue Waters and Edward Caswell.

Taking part in a workshop also provides a good introduction to the choir if you are thinking of joining us.

Singing Workshop: A Royal Occasion
Saturday 2nd March 2019
2-6pm (registration from 1.30pm)
St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith W6 9BE > >

St George’s Chapel

Join Petros Singers for an afternoon celebrating 400 years of music written for and performed at the great royal occasions. The workshop will be led by James Vivian who, as one of the few people to have conducted at a major royal ceremonial event in recent years, and certainly the only person to have conducted at two, is uniquely qualified. James will lead singers through a sparkling selection of music associated with royal weddings, funerals and coronations.

If you saw Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May last year, you’ll remember the central and inspirational role that the music played in the ceremony. At the workshop we’ll be singing Tallis’ If ye love me and Rutter’s The Lord bless you and keep you, both of which were performed by the Choir of St George’s Chapel at the royal wedding. The rest of our programme for the afternoon is made up of other favourites: I Was Glad by Parry, Zadok the Priest by Handel, Thou wilt keep him by Wesley, and Vaughan Williams’ The Old 100th.

We do hope you’ll join us for this unique opportunity to sing your heart out to some truly stirring and historic music.

There will be an ‘informal concert’ at 5.30pm as we run through all the pieces we’ve rehearsed during the afternoon. Do please invite your friends and family to come along and listen - they would be very welcome.

James Vivian James Vivian is Director of Music at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle where he conducts the famous choir in its daily liturgical schedule, in addition to performances on television, radio and in concert.
