Johannes Brahms was a great musical historian, collecting and editing music by many of his famous predecessors. Here, his monumental Ein Deutsches Requiem is preceded by a series of songs and motets known to Brahms, illuminating his influences in the composition of this masterful work. Including music by Schutz, JS Bach, Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann.
